Experience:
Swift Engineering, San Clemente CA (2014 to Present) - Project Engineer
• Led the structural analysis effort of the Swift 020 product development cycle, a 12’ wingspan composite VTOL UAV. Performed finite element analysis (FEA) and hand calculations while working closely with the air vehicle design team to rapidly iterate vehicle configurations to obtain a cost-effective solution that also achieved the stringent weight requirements.
• Performed preliminary structural analysis for a technical feasibility study of a large 130’ flight test article. Utilized Altair HyperMesh and Optistruct to generate a comprehensive aircraft loads model, and perform linear, buckling, and modal analysis. Worked in conjunction with design and manufacturing engineers to perform material and layout trades to confirm feasibility of concept.
• Created detailed stress reports capturing the analytical evolution and detailing the composition of the final configuration, while clearly conveying laminate schedules and component margins of safety.
• Mentored entry level engineers in the best practices and conventional model techniques employed in finite element analysis.
• Routinely worked long hours to champion the structural analysis effort of several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) including the Northrop Grumman BAT 14 among other military and commercial platforms. Performed linear static, nonlinear static, nonlinear transient, buckling, and normal modes (modal) analysis among others.
• Utilized 3D and 2D CAD to perform design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA), parts design, and tooling design for the XCOR Lynx Spacecraft.
• Created detailed production manufacturing instructions for aerospace composite parts and tooling.
• Routinely communicated with customers to discuss program progress and ensure quality.
• Developed and continuously improved an excel VBA estimating model capable of calculating cost and price of aerospace components. Further developed and incorporated a project tracking model to help monitor the status of ongoing projects.
• Estimated cost, schedule, and risk of designing and building aerospace components and assemblies.
• Collaborated with teammates to write technical papers, proposals, and final reports.
Impresa Aerospace, Gardena CA (2012 to 2014) – Product Cost Analyst
• Analyzed aircraft engineering designs for flaws to determine part manufacturability.
• Calculated costs of manufacturing sheet metal and machined components to perform margin analysis.
• Created cost-price model for parts based on material, manufacturing techniques, outside processes, and lead time using macros and VBA script within Microsoft Excel for more efficient estimating pro...
